CHRIST CHURCH TSHWANE COVENANT WITH BIBLE REFERENCES
Having been brought by God’s grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ we now, in dependence upon His Spirit, resolve to live by faith, and so establish this covenant with each other.
We will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Eph 4v3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
We will be devoted to one another in brotherly love. With humility and gentleness we will patiently bear with each other, forgiving, encouraging and building one another up, exercising watchfulness over each other and admonishing one another when necessary.
Luke 17v3 So watch yourselves. “If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.
Col 3v13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
1 Thess 5v11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
1Peter1:22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.
We will not neglect to gather together, or to pray for ourselves and others.
Col 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
Heb 10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching
We promise to bring up our children and youth in the training and instruction of the Lord, and by a pure and loving example to seek the salvation of our family and friends.
Eph 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
1Peter 3:1 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives
We will rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep, helping to carry each other’s burdens.
Rom 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
We will seek, by God’s help, to live carefully in this world, denying ungodliness and worldly passions. We will strive to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age, as we wait for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Titus 2:12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
1Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance
We will defend and maintain an evangelical ministry in this church by supporting and upholding:
– The preaching of the Word of God
2Tim 4:2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.
– The administration of the Gospel Sacraments (baptism and the Lord’s Supper)
Acts 2:38-29 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
1Cor 11:26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
– The exercise of Church discipline
Matt 18:17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
1Co 5:13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
We will contribute cheerfully, generously and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.
Matt 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Luke 12:33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys
2Co 9:7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
We will, when we move from this place, as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen. 2 Cor 13:14
